Parent Councils have the status of a statutory body and were established under the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.
Parent Councils were set up to play an active role in supporting parental involvement in the work and the life of the school, while also providing opportunities for parents to express their views on children’s education and learning. Parent Councils have the right to information and advise on matters which affect children’s education.
Underbank Parent Council works in partnership with the school and there is excellent communication between the Head Teacher and the Parent Council. Typically, our agenda will cover topics such as the curriculum, school policies, school infrastructure/playground, staffing developments and the annual school improvement plan. The Head Teacher attends all meetings with another member of the teaching staff and a Clerk. The Head Teacher provides an update on all school matters, for example, school roll, staff changes, budgets and attainment. Out with these meetings the Head Teacher communicates informally with the Chair of the Parent Council about various matters.
Our chair, Mrs Scott Martin, can be contacted on via email – scott@jnrsolicitors.com
A list of our current members is noted above. You can contact any member in relation to a Parent Council issue. We are open to new members at any time so please contact the Chair if you wish to become a member.
Please note, we cannot respond to matters concerning individual pupils as these should be discussed with the Head Teacher or your child’s class teacher.
Our constitution (available to down load below) sets out the rules and guidelines we follow in running the Parent Council.
